Heritage Meets Innovation: The Story Behind Our Japanese Cotton & Lace Collection

Heritage Meets Innovation: The Story Behind Our Japanese Cotton & Lace Collection

Tonight we launch a new capsule. A collection grounded in fabric and detail — built not just for this season, but for many to come.

This post is a behind-the-scenes introduction. A look at why we chose Japanese cotton, heritage tartans, reclaimed deadstock, and heirloom lace — and why we’ve kept it intentionally small.

Fabric First: Cloth with Character

Our aim is always the same: to source fabrics with texture, longevity, and quiet beauty. This capsule includes a mix of:

  • Japanese cottons from artisan mills known for their fine weaves, matte finishes, and rich dye techniques

  • Tartan patterns with British roots — soft-brushed and woven in limited quantities for winter

  • Deadstock florals and textures — remarkable cloths found in limited quantities and saved from being lost

Each fabric was chosen for how it feels, how it moves, and how it will last. Some are crisp and structured, others soft and fluid — but all are natural fibres, and all are made to be worn again and again.

Made in Winchester: A Studio Practice

Every garment in the collection is cut and sewn in our Winchester studio. Small-batch by design.

We work with a small team in our Winchester studio. Some pieces feature heirloom lace — a trim at the cuff, a scalloped edge at the collar — chosen for its texture and character. These details echo the past, but every design is made to be worn now, and for seasons ahead.

We make in small runs. Sometimes only 4 or 5 of a style. That allows us to use fabrics fully, waste less, and focus on construction.

Limited, With Purpose

Some of the fabrics in this capsule are one-offs — end-of-line bolts or rolls we won’t find again. Others, like the Japanese cottons and brushed tartans, are sourced with care and intention.

Our belief is that the most sustainable garment is the one you keep wearing. So each piece is designed with longevity in mind: reinforced seams, generous hems, classic silhouettes, and natural fibres that age well.

A Quiet Offering

This capsule includes:

  • A vintage-inspired lace dress made in Hampshire

  • Japanese cotton blouses, lined and stitched by hand

  • Pleated skirts in heritage tartan and floral deadstock

  • Limited-run tops with subtle trims and soft tailoring

Each piece — whether made from newly sourced cloth or reclaimed fabric — is cut with care, made in small runs, and designed to be worn well, again and again.

The collection goes live at 8PM.
