Meet Emma Shaw, Founder & Creative Director of The Well Worn

After more than 20 years working in the fashion industry, Emma Shaw founded The Well Worn to create clothing that combined thoughtful design, responsible production and a more personal connection to fashion.

Drawing on a background in print, colour and product direction, the brand brings together Emma’s longstanding interest in vintage clothing, British manufacturing and garments designed to be worn and re-worn for years to come.

Today, The Well Worn operates from its Winchester microfactory and studio, producing limited collections and made-to-order pieces in-house using deadstock, reclaimed and responsibly sourced fabrics.

Beautiful clothes without compromise.

Personal Touch

Most days start with coffee, a quick scroll through overnight orders and taking Coco out before heading into the studio. Time is usually split between fittings, pattern cutting, cutting fabrics, sourcing vintage textiles and working alongside the team in the microfactory.

Emma is drawn to clothes with personality - worn denim, romantic dresses, faded prints, vintage trims and pieces that feel better slightly undone. The Well Worn is rooted in the idea that fashion should feel expressive, creative and lived in rather than overly polished or trend-led.

Her favourite reworked piece is still the first denim jacket she ever remade - covered in visible stitching, patched panels and imperfect details that somehow still feel completely right.

The Beginning

“During that sabbatical summer, after more than 20 years working in the fashion industry, I started thinking differently about what I wanted the next chapter to look like. It was a summer of endless sand, salty hair, finding adventures with my children and spending hours in the waves - but amongst all of that came a growing feeling that I wanted to create something more personal and more connected to my values.

I still loved designing and making clothes, but I had become increasingly uncomfortable with the compromises that often came with the industry. I wanted to find a better way to create clothing - one that didn’t compromise on design, quality or responsibility.

So I went back to the things that first drew me to fashion: British manufacturing, vintage clothing, beautiful dresses and the emotional value of garments made to be worn and re-worn.

That idea became The Well Worn.

Today, the brand creates limited collections and reworked vintage pieces from our Winchester microfactory and studio, producing in small batches and made-to-order using deadstock, reclaimed and responsibly sourced fabrics.

Beautiful clothes without compromise.

Vision

The Well Worn continues to evolve through reworked vintage, limited collections and pieces designed to become part of everyday life for years to come.

Alongside dresses, the brand is gradually expanding into a broader world of clothing, accessories and lifestyle objects shaped by vintage influence, thoughtful design and a love of beautifully made things.

At its heart, The Well Worn is about creating clothes with personality - pieces that feel expressive, feminine, slightly undone and entirely individual.

Values

The Well Worn believes in thoughtful design, responsible production and clothing made to be lived in.

Production takes place in small batches and made-to-order through the Winchester microfactory using reclaimed, deadstock and carefully sourced fabrics wherever possible. Vintage textiles and worn garments are often reworked through visible stitching, repair and reconstruction - embracing character, individuality and the value of extending a garment’s life.

Above all, The Well Worn values creativity, craftsmanship and clothes with personality.
