Upcycled Breton Top – Sashiko Edition

A classic Breton with a new story to tell. This one-of-a-kind piece has been reimagined in our Winchester microfactory, where sashiko stitching and thoughtful mending transform preloved garments into wearable heirlooms.

Each top carries subtle hand-stitched details across the yoke, celebrating the Japanese art of visible repair while giving the fabric a second life. The result is an easy long-sleeve stripe with history woven through every line.

The art of mending to prolong the life of a garment or object is at the heart of what we do. In our Winchester studio we use a mix of Sashiko and Boro techniques. Sashiko stitch is an antidote to the fast fashion world. It is used to reinforce points of wear on a garment and to repair worn places or tears with patches - creating Boro.  The running stitch is also used for decorative purposes. Textiles stitched and repaired in this way can be said to embrace the concept of ‘Wabi Sabi'.
