Emma founder of The Well Worn gave Alice a hands-on experience allowing her to try a ‘bit of everything’, Alice exceled in one of her of projects where she designed an “amazing dress” that was featured in the collection. When asked about the benefits of internships for future studies and career opportunities, Emma responded that “I think having insight into the industry – from the design side right through to production and sales. As we make in the UK, we work closely with our factory which is invaluable as a designer to really understand the process. In industry the ability to deal with change is also key and in a small business we get quite a lot of that!”
The Graduate Fashion Week event allows young designers to showcase their work to the industry, producing collections. Alice presented a collection using recycled materials such as tablecloths, rugs and curtains creating a circular collection. Inspired by her Yorkshire heritage Alice said, “It’s an honour to be awarded with the Gold Award at Graduate Fashion Week, I’ve been surrounded by an incredible team of peers, tutors and support system who have got me here today.”
