Sashiko is a traditional Japanese embroidery style which dates back hundreds of years.

This hand-picked preloved jacket has a combination of different visible Sashiko stitches: Seigaiha (Waves), Sakura (Cherry Blossom), Fondou (Weights) and freehand stitching.

Size Medium - garment measures chest 112cm on the round - length 65cm - hem 104cm on the round.

The art of mending to prolong the life of a garment or object is at the heart of what we do. In our Winchester studio we use a mix of Sashiko and Boro techniques. Sashiko stitch is an antidote to the fast fashion world. It is used to reinforce points of wear on a garment and to repair worn places or tears with patches - creating Boro.  The running stitch is also used for decorative purposes. Textiles stitched and repaired in this way can be said to embrace the concept of ‘Wabi Sabi'.
